First As a Prada "Gatsby" fashion moment created

For a period film "The Great Gatsby" seems very familiar.

The film by Baz Luhrmann and in cinemas on 10 Directed Mai is already spawning "inspired by" collections in retail Tiffany the Bride of David. One of the main reasons for the resonance mode of the film is the currency of her sewing: elegant tuxedos, flapper dresses lace, fringes and beads, headdress headband and swingy beaded necklaces from a cast, Carey Mulligan, Leonardo includes worn DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire.

To create a modern ambience, designer Miuccia Prada suits based on 41 last glimpses of her own Prada and Miu Miu line. The fans know, spring 2011 Prada collection can striped fur stoles and sequined dresses to accommodate in a pivotal party scene. At the start and the Milan runway collection was embellished with original details like pictures of monkeys and does little to remember the 1920s. To change the soundtrack to Ms. Prada sweetened a softer color palette of the period changed necklines, belts and fall decorations away, and other popular social details in the 20s.

The crazy eyes slightly irritated at the moment, for example, striped fur was not a fad of the 1920s, so they do not feel stuffy in the film. That's cool with the audience bask in the bold frivolity that time.

The production is also trying to stay true to the book. Author F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote that the wind ruffled fur Daisy Buchanan, as they leave a party. In this sense, Ms. Prada has created a soft pink stole the pale color of the character match. The room itself was designed to "the highest award in a feminine dress," says Catherine Martin, the wife of Mr. Luhrmann and production designer, winning the Academy.

Mrs. Martin said that her husband wanted to avoid a costume outlook. "He wanted to let go of what he feels, the book says, in a language that the public can understand today," says Martin.

She said Ms. Prada-an old friend was skeptical about taking on the project. When Mr. Luhrmann, an Australian filmmaker whose films like "Moulin Rouge," "Strictly Ballroom" and "Australia", first suggested that tweak of modern fashion "Gatsby," his own collections, Ms. Prada said said the idea seemed anachronistic. "Explain to me why you think it's OK," Ms. Prada needed, says Martin. Assembling a presentation to convince the designer, Mrs. Martin showed appearance of these past 10 years of Prada and Miu Miu collections that. Comparing each representing an aspect of the "history" in the 1920s

Ms. Prada said she felt "unsafe" at first. "I do not, do not usually talk about all the time in my work," she wrote in an e-mail. "Then, with Catherine Martin, I noticed that many pieces from my archives twenties could be the same with only a minimum of intervention. This was a real surprise!"

In fact, the 1920 styles for women are not so different from today's, Mrs. Martin said, adding: "We must remember that in 1922, almost all the species we know today, the shoulder dress, harem pants , military appearance, while the vernacular is modern clothing already existed. "

The Director, Ms. Martin and Ms. Prada have known Ms. Prada costume designed Leonardo DiCaprio for the film Mr. Luhrmann's "Romeo and Juliet". Their history of joint projects include a short film show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition "Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations" last year.

"I think they stimulate the mind of another," says Martin. Costumes on which Ms. Prada and Mrs. Martin worked in the Prada flagship store on Broadway in New York from 1 May to 12 May, displayed

The filmmakers have authentic feel Sketch drawing deepened to create 1920 Tiffany designs in the archives of Tiffany & Co. jewelry, and went to Brooks Brothers archives costumes for the male characters to create. Ms. Prada designs were made from his studio in Italy. Men's fashion, accessories and costumes than 350 women were created in Sydney by 90 costume, six hatters, hats new men's vintage hat blocks.

Each costume was given even if worn by an additional character name and a back story. "Baz is obsessed with the crowd scenes," Ms. Martin said sets. "He believes that if every additional to understand who they are, the public will believe it."

The "Feathers Irene" costume based on a spring 2011 Prada green and black striped dress. Working with Ms. Martin, Ms. Prada steamed bright colors in gray, silver and purple, with matching fur. They draped the character of the pearl jewelry and a headband.

In terms of luxury brands for suits for the film has an advantage: it unleashed own publicist brands. Tiffany Wednesday opened new Windows Store Gatsby its flagship Fifth Avenue, with "World of Gatsby" display in the store. Tiffany has created a special collection for sale, art deco cuff "GG" links, which includes a pair of "JG" in the film Jay Gatsby.

Solstiss, a manufacturer of French lace, announced this week that it figured 1,400 meter peak deco costumes made.

Other fashion retailers that do not work on the film, as well as bloggers like Fashionista.com are powerless for the film. Accessories Label Farbod Barsum promotes "Gatsby" look evening bags, with materials such as beads.

Paris Catalina Maddox, fashion director for David's Bridal, has long seen the movie as an influence of the likely mode. It's designed in 2013 collections with a sense of 1920, a turning away from strapless styles. "This is the perfect movie mode," she said, because the styles "are totally commercial and wearable."
